PLG Coffee House and Tavern blends the casual energy of a neighborhood café with the hearty offerings of a breakfast-focused restaurant, making it a versatile spot along Rogers Ave in Brooklyn. It's a place where morning routines and weekend catch-ups overlap, serving locals who want good coffee alongside more substantial breakfast and lunch fare.

The coffee here gets attention for its solid lattes and a variety of milk options, which appeal to those who are particular about their morning cup. Tea drinkers also find plenty to explore with a broad selection, fitting the crowd who might linger over a book or a casual chat. The seating leans toward a relaxed café vibe rather than formal dining, though the menu stretches well into hearty sandwiches and breakfast plates that go beyond typical coffee shop fare.

Breakfast options stand out as a reason to come, especially if you’re in the mood for something like avocado toast on rye sprinkled with cumin and chia, or a breakfast sandwich built around turkey, bacon, and eggs. The food can sometimes swing between reliably solid and a bit uneven — some days the bacon or chips might arrive less than fresh, which matches the typical ups and downs of busy local spots trying to balance quality and volume. This makes timing worth considering; weekday mornings might deliver a smoother experience than weekend rushes.

The atmosphere feels familiar and communal, bolstered by thoughtful touches like a community fridge that invites local participation. The service is friendly, if occasionally a little slow, reflecting the steady but unhurried pace popular among the neighborhood’s rhythm.

PLG draws a mixed crowd — from families settling into the area on a Sunday morning, to freelancers and locals who appreciate having a coffee shop that also satisfies hunger without the hassle of hopping around multiple places. For a mid-morning break or a relaxed weekend brunch, it fits comfortably into the Clinton Hill and Bed-Stuy area’s eclectic mix of neighborhood cafés and eateries.

  • Best for: Breakfast or brunch with coffee, casual lunches, and those who enjoy a laid-back neighborhood café with a heartier menu.
  • Who will enjoy it: Locals looking for familiar café vibes combined with solid breakfast sandwiches and varied drink choices; families settling into the neighborhood; coffee and tea lovers seeking variety.
  • When to visit: Midweek mornings or early weekend brunches might give you the best balance of fresh food and attentive service.
  • Atmosphere: Comfortable and unpretentious, with community-focused touches and a pace that matches Brooklyn locals’ rhythms.

Moved a family member into the neighborhood the day before so we popped in here on Sunday morning for some breakfast. Had bacon, egg and cheese on an onion bagel and it was delicious. Coffee was great too. We’ll definitely be back when we visit!

The lattes are good with a lot of milk choices. There's a community fridge (love that, gets an extra star just for that.) Service is usually fine but slow. Lots of tea choices. However, the food is reliably inconsistent. Sometimes it's really really good, other times it feels like they are scraping the barrel. Today I got a crumbled overcooked slice of bacon on my BLT and some stale tortilla chips bc they were out of potato chips. I am going to avoid food there for a while and stick to drinks.

I enjoyed my Turkey Club sandwich but GOOD GOLLY this economy is hitting me hard. The sandwich is $12.5 and I DID elect to pay an additional $3.50 for an additional egg, so should be 2 eggs total because hey momma needs that protein. So when I got this square sandwich that cost me $21 including tax and tip I’m just like.. what in the world is going on?? I had to double check that I did in fact get the 2 eggs, it just wasn’t as fluffy as I was expecting. Server seemed super annoyed I even asked lol but hey this cost me an additional $3.5 are you sure? He didn’t like that. Oh well. Also, 0.85 for a “delivery fee” and when I asked what that was about, he said it was actually a credit card fee.. and I’m like ok well … what. you know the feeling. Service was good, I like the food. Graffiti benches and overall wood/brick feel is nice. I learned PLG stands for Peace Love and Gratitude
